Do you have a manuscript on a topic related to the Lemko region that you would like to publish? The Lemko Research Foundation is announcing the following contest whereby the non-fiction, book-length manuscript of one winner will be selected for publication! Please see the official rules below for more information:

Who: LRF is as a non-profit research organization that promotes the study and research of the history, culture, and traditions of the people of Lemko origin. We disseminate information to the public concerning Lemko issues through the publication of books, papers, and other materials. We are inviting authors of Lemko-related book manuscripts to submit them for competition in our publishing contest.

What?: Submitted monographs must be non-fiction. Topics can include, but are not strictly limited to, the history, culture (e.g., language, literature, music, art, architecture), and daily life (e.g., clothing, folklore, cuisine) of the Lemkos. Topics with a Ukrainian-Lemko focus are particularly encouraged. For example, submissions can take the form of: theoretical analyses, PhD dissertations, literary/artistic reviews, personal memoirs, cookbooks, etc.

Where?: Submission of manuscripts will be accepted either electronically by email to
webmaster@lemko-ool.com or in print by regular mail to:

Mr. Andriy Khomyk
15 Locust Street
Norwalk, CT 06855

Individuals submitting electronically should attach the manuscript (contained in one single Microsoft Word or PDF document) to an e-mail with a subject line stating “Lemko Research Foundation Book Publishing.” Please do not paste manuscripts into the body of the email.

When?: Submissions must be received by no later than December 31, 2018.
One winner will be selected and contacted on July 1, 2019. The name of the winner will also be announced by posting on the LRF webpage: https://www.lemko-ool.com/?page_id=975&lang=en

LRF reserves the right to modify any deadlines or dates set forth in these rules.

How?: To participate in the contest, each entrant must provide the following:

  • Cover letter including your name, mailing address, email address, phone number, title of your submission, and summary of why LRF should select your book as the winner and what its publication will achieve. Please also note if another publisher is presently considering your manuscript.
  • Curriculum vitae or résumé
  • Book manuscript in either print or electronic format

Entrants will receive a confirmation email message verifying receipt of submission. Because we cannot be responsible for lost materials and no submissions will be returned, entrants should keep all originals and only send us a copy of your manuscript.

By participating in this contest, each entrant: unconditionally accepts and agrees to comply with these official rules; warrants that their submission is their own original, previously unpublished work and has not been copied in whole or in part from any other work; and agrees that any disputes potentially arising out of the contest shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of litigation.

Why?: The contest winner will receive a free publishing package that includes: interior book layout, custom cover, copyright registration, complimentary author copies, a press release announcing publication of their book, and distribution through LRF’s channels.

The winner, as a pre-condition to entitlement to the publishing prize, agrees to enter into a contract with LRF and to abide by the terms and conditions of this publishing contract.
